No special training needed to use Silverpeas.

Silverpeas is a simple platform to use. Based on an intuitive ergonomy, it boasts a very simple interface adaptable to all types of users, ranging from a web internaut with no technical training, to a web designer using the latest web technolgies.

The overall ergonomic goal is that anybody can easily use Silverpeas, regardless of their technical background. (In the same way that Amazon and Ebay are easily used without any special training).

To achieve this goal implies respecting ergonomic standards, such as a homogenous presentation, breadcrumbs navigation, hyper text links for commands, recognisable icons, color coding, the right to make a mistake, and an on-line help, etc.

Silverpeas is adaptable to a wide range of users thanks to 3 mechanisms:

The possibility to present an Intranet as a simple web site where the content is displayed in the pages, thanks to the CMS layer
The possibility for the user to choose their own 'look' (with their own buttons and font size, for example)
The possibility to activate the 'guiding' layer which literally guides the user through the diffferent stages of a task. It is simply a matter of of entering the information required and clicking on 'Continue'.

Silverpeas includes a WYSIWYG editor (Open Source FCK Editor) to create and update content.

Silverpeas is a completely customizable Java-based collaborative platform. It enables the quick set-up of an Intranet and CACW (Computer assistated collaborative work) tools and gives centralised access to business applications.
Built around collaborative spaces, the user themsleves can define the organisation and deployment of a range of tools such as content management, document management or knowledge management, collaborative tools ( workflow, project management, shared diaries, yellow pages, blog, wikis, etc...) to suit their own needs.
